Cottage Pie

Cottage Pie and Shepherds’ Pie are slightly unusual in that, unlike most pies and pasties, they’re topped with mashed potato rather than pastry.

Cottage Pie is made with minced Beef while, as the name suggests, Shepherds’ Pie is made with minced Lamb.

This is a pretty generic recipe, once you’ve got the basics sorted it’s interesting to add other vegetables – my recipe (crafted with my own fair hands and photographed below) included a handful of frozen peas and sweetcorn, and a side portion of Baked Beans.

Needless to say both Cottage Pie and Shepherds’ Pie are popular ‘pub grub’ lunchtime staples.
